Behavior of accidents in pediatric patients. Teaching Polyclinic “Leonilda Tamayo Matosâ€. 2011 – 2013

A traverse descriptive study was carried out to describe the behavior of accidents at home in pediatric patients belonging to the Educational Policlinic Leonilda Tamayo Matos between 2011 and 2013 assisted in “Héroes del Baire Hospitalâ€. A total of 106 cassualties were evaluated in this study, a survey was applied to all of them by the medical personnel. There was a bigger prevalence of home accidents in the male sex. The biggest number of accident victims was among the 5-9 year-old group age. It was observed that more eventualities of this type happened inside the housing, in a general way, although in a specific way there was bigger incidence in the yard and the kitchen. The most frequent lesions were the wounds followed by the bruises and the falls. The more affected anatomical regions were the skull and the face, followed by the superior members. The biggest morbidity is concentrated on the homes in which there are high risk factors to be more effective in the prevention of this phenomenon. The most frequent risk factors in our study were free access to the kitchen, small, sharp and piercing objects within reach of the patients. Most of the accident victims suffered light lesions; there were only three serious cases of which two died. It is recommended to emphasize in the doctor’s educational work and the family nurse.
