Abstract

Pregnancy in adolescence and sex education as a way to prevent it are a problem of unavoidable solution. With the objective of characterizing the knowledge and risks observed in pregnant adolescents who decide to continue with motherhood according to: contraceptive method used at some time, risk factors that condition pregnancy, knowledge of the type of risk that becomes pregnant, which motivates decision to assume Maternity, a descriptive observational study is carried out, from January to December 2015, University Polyclinic “Orestes Falls Oñateâ€, Santa Fe, Isla de la Juventud. The universe and the sample coincide with 90 adolescent pregnant women who decided to give birth, including the totality corresponding to the period studied. Primary source of data collection: survey, statistical records, individual health histories. Data were processed in computerized form, statistical measures of distributions were applied: frequency, percentage. Most of the adolescents who decided to give birth did not use any contraceptive method. In terms of the risk factors that affect pregnancy, there was a broad predominance of three factors: early sexual intercourse, lack of sexual orientation, and low self-esteem. Regarding the knowledge they have of the type of risk that she acquires with her adolescent pregnancy, the whole type of social risk prevails, the decision to assume maternity was mostly family and personal.
