Characterization of pregnancy in adolescents from the Santa Fe village. Isle of Youth. January-December 2015

Pregnancy in adolescence and sex education as a way to prevent it are an ongoing problem and it is ineluctable to give solution. In order to characterize the pregnancy in adolescents who decide to continue with motherhood, according to age groups, schooling, occupation, marital status and age of onset of the first sexual intercourse, a descriptive observational study was performed in the period from January to December 2015, University Polyclinic “Orestes Falls Oñateâ€, Santa Fe, Isla de la Juventud. The universe and the sample coincide with the 90 adolescent pregnant women who decided to give birth, including the totality of the period studied. Primary source of data collection: survey, statistical records, individual health histories. Data were processed in a computerized way, statistical measures of frequency and percentage distributions were applied. The largest number of pregnant adolescents was in the group of 16-19 years old, with pre-university studies, housewife, consensual union and the beginning of the first sexual relations of these pregnant teenagers occurs more frequently also between The 16-19 years old. This characterization of pregnancy in adolescents who decide to continue with motherhood, provides information necessary to address this problem in the town of Santa Fe, Isla de la Juventud, where their presence shows the need to increase promotion and prevention actions towards This important age group to improve their sexual and reproductive health.
